Parliament vote ousts Faraji Dana out of cabinet

TEHRAN, Aug. 20 (MNA) – Parliament impeachment campaign finally removed Rouhani’s minister for science from cabinet.

The impeachment vote cast today in the parliament was organized by the right-wing faction of Principlists. Pro-impeachment representatives read a statement to explain reasons to impeach the minister.

“Unfortunately, his conducts in the ministry diagonally opposed the official line of policy approved by the System; his conduct led universities to the edge of the extremism, which contradicted with policies propagated by the government which advocated moderation. We believe that the current ministerial conduct would only destabilize the corridors for science and technology and create chaos in society,” read the statement.

Main reasons for impeachment related to the “appointment of individuals with a rule in upheavals following 2009 presidential elections, and new chairs for universities,” which representatives believed, was “in conflict with the accepted practices approved by the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution and the express directives issued by the president.”

Another reason cited “opening the universities to anti-Revolutionary sentiments and individuals with secularist mentality who sought to revive ethnic and separatist circles in universities.”

According to reports, representatives also were concerned with readmission to universities the so-called ‘starred students’ (a term used for students allegedly suspended from universities for political activism) which had been deprived of their rights to higher education by the previous government. They also cited ‘declined position of Iran in terms of production of science’ as other factor contributing to the impeachment.
